This incredible and fascinating city is one of the places in Puglia that you have to visit at least once in your life. Lecce offers numerous examples of architecture and works of art from the Baroque period, so much that it is known as the "Baroque city" par excellence. It boasts a wonderful historic centre, numerous churches and squares: Santa Maria della Provvidenza, the wonderful Piazzetta dell’Addolorata and the Basilica of Santa Croce. One of the features of Lecce is its typical stone, known as Lecce stone, used to build most of the buildings in the historic centre over the centuries.
